Early Voting

Early voting in this year’s presidential election began September 23.

Virginia has seen a recent trend toward early voting, despite a state law that restricts absentee ballots to those who have specific reasons why they will be unavailable to vote in person on Election Day.

Historic Trends

The rate of early voting in presidential elections used to be consistent across Virginia. But in recent years, early voting has soared to nearly one-in-three voters in some localities, particularly those that trend Democratic.
