The Virginia Medical Society represents physicians and lobbies the General Assembly on matters of concern to its members.

Specific Legislation Tracked:

• HB1598: Certificate of public need; criteria for determining need and method of filing.
• HB1703: Indoor Clean Air Act; prohibits smoking in certain public buildings, restaurants, etc., exceptions.
• HB1744: Natural health care providers; not licensed may provide care to consumer for use of natural foods.
• HB1852: Health Professions, Department of; confidentiality of investigations.
• HB1943: Optometrists; those licensed may sell contact lenses & allowed to dispense ophthalmic devices.
• HB1948: Involuntary commitment; allow examination by licensed marriage and family therapists.
• HB1984: Physicians and patients; eliminates limiting patient's health information introduced at trial .
• HB2057: Health care providers; expands list of expressions of sympathy that are not admissible.
• HB2058: Dentistry, Board of; recovering monitoring costs.
• HB2060: Mental health law; amends statutes to address issues resulting from overhaul thereof.
