Value-Added Data for Deeds and McDonnell

VPAP has integrated the post-election campaign finance reports for the two candidates for Governor throughout its Web site:

As some newspapers reported today, the 2009 Governor's race did not set a record for spending by the two major party nominees. During the four-year cycle, Deeds and McDonnell spent a combined $40.5 million, down from the combined $45.2 million spending in the race four years earlier.

However, if you take into account the amount spent by the two losing candidates in the Democratic primary, the total spending in the 2009 gubernatorial cycle was $52.8 million, breaking the 2005 record of $46.7 million.
