Update: VPAP Launches Precinct-Level Maps

Date: 05/27/2010

The nonpartisan Virginia Public Access Project today launched new maps aimed at providing citizens with a new way to look at the democratic process.

"We wanted to show people the subtle differences in results from neighborhood to neighborhood, and how it all fits together in the mosaic we call representative government," VPAP executive David Poole said.

Kathy Cashel, a Washington-based Web designer and programmer, built applications -- powered by Google maps -- that allow people to view election results at the precinct level.

Below are some examples:

To view the precinct-level results of any locality, click on the VPAP Statewide Map and click on any city or county. Once there, click on the tab marked "Election Maps."

To view the precinct-level results of any House or Senate district, click on the Statewide Map and, beneath the map, select the "House District" or "Senate District" view. When map resets, double-click on district and follow tab called "Election Maps."

These latest tools were made possible with generous funding from Dominion and Verizon.
