Update: Senate Passes Congressional Redistricting

Date: 01/20/2012

The Virginia Senate gave final approval to a GOP plan to redraw Virginia’s 11 congressional districts. The vote was 20-19. This plan – identical to one scuttled by Senate Democrats last year – has been blessed by each member of the Virginia delegation.

The bill heads to Gov. McDonnell for approval. The plan also must be sanctioned by the U.S. Department of Justice before the new lines are in place for this year’s congressional races.

Coming next week, vpap.org will go live with overlay maps showing the boundaries of the old and new districts.
