VPAP is Hiring
The Virginia Public Access Project, a Richmond-based nonprofit dedicated to transparency in politics, seeks an organized, dependable person as part-time Office Manager. Flexible work schedule with some opportunity to work from home. Must have administrative assistant background (or equivalent).
Primary Responsibilities:
- Process donations/Thank You cards
- Enter all checks and receipts into QuickBooks
- Balance checkbook with bank statement
- Collect and organize campaign finance reports from local voting officials
- Oversee mail merge/printing/stuffing direct mail
- Schedule executive director’s fundraising appointments
- Answering phones
- Order office supplies
- Additional duties as assigned
Experience/Attributes:
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience as office manager, administrative assistant or equivalent
- Ability to work calmly under deadline pressure
Skills:
- Highly developed skills with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly mail merge
- Proofreading
- Excellent penmanship
- Bookkeeping training or demonstrative proficiency with balancing checkbook
- Ability to handle multiple tasks
- Knowledge of databases a plus
- Experience with nonprofits a plus
Salary and Benefits: This is a part-time hourly position for 20 hours a week. Hourly rate based on experience. Parking in downtown Richmond provided.

New State Candidates
VPAP has updated its list of candidates running for Senate and House seats.
State Senate
SENATE DISTRICT 14
Chris Stearns, a Republican activist and chairman of Virginia's 3rd District Republican Committee, has announced he will vie with Del. John Cosgrove (R-Chesapeake) for the party nomination in Senate District 14. The GOP will select their nominee in a firehouse primary tentatively planned for May 9, prior to the state Senate special election scheduled for August 6.
The seat is currently held by retiring Sen. Harry Blevins, who has represented the district for 12 years.
House of Delegates
HOUSE DISTRICT 19
Zachary Hatcher has joined Terry Austin, Zach Martin, and Jim McKelvey in seeking the Republican nomination in House District 19, which encompasses Allegheny County, Bedford City, and Covington, as well as parts of Bedford and Botetourt counties. The GOP will select its nominee in a firehouse primary on May 7. Two other Republican candidates -- Jim Crosby and Jerry Johnson -- have withdrawn from the race.
Joshua Ball (Constitution Party) is also seeking the seat, which is currently held by retiring Del. Lacey Putney.
HOUSE DISTRICT 50
Richard Cabellos (Democrat) is challenging Republican incumbent Jackson Miller in House District 50, which encompasses Manassas and parts of Prince William County. Miller has held this seat since 2006.
HOUSE DISTRICT 53
Anthony Tellez (Libertarian) has joined Democrat Marcus Simon in the race for the open seat in House District 53, which encompasses Falls Church and parts of Fairfax County. The seat is currently held by retiring Del. Jim Scott (D-Merrifield).
HOUSE DISTRICT 84
Brent McKenzie (Democrat) has joined Republican Glenn Davis in the race for the open seat in House District 84, which encompasses part of Virginia Beach. The seat is currently held by retiring Del. Sal Iaquinto.

1st-Quarter Filing Reports
April 15 is the deadline for all statewide and House candidates to disclose their campaign finances for the first three months of the year.
The deadline is 5 p.m. VPAP should have information posted on its site shortly thereafter.
Candidates must report the name, address, employer and occupation of any donor who gives more than $100 during the election cycle. They also are required to itemized all expenses, regardless of amount.
April 15 is also the first-quarter filing deadline for non-candidate political committees.
