With more than 1,000 people packing the Kena Shriners’ Temple for his 22nd annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration, U.S. Rep. Gerald Connolly (D-11th) formally kicked off his bid for re-election March 17.

“Public service imbues everything I do, and serving the 11th District of Virginia is a privilege I’m grateful for every day,” Connolly said at the kickoff.

“Together, we’ve made investments in education [and] transportation, and protected Northern Virginia’s economy,” Connolly said in  a statement released by his campaign. “We’ve fought hard for health care reform, affordable housing, environmental protections, Wall Street reform and equality for all. But there is still important work to be done.”

Connolly was serving as chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors when he was first elected to Congress in 2008, defeating Republican Keith Fimian. After narrowly winning re-election against Fimian in 2010, he secured easy victories in 2012 and 2014.

The district includes a large swath of Fairfax County, along with a portion of Prince William County. As currently configured, the 11th trends Democratic; President Obama garnered nearly 63 percent of the vote in 2012.

Connolly’s St. Patrick’s Day celebration qualifies as the largest annual Democratic gathering in Northern Virginia. Among those on hand for the 2016 event were U.S. Rep. Don Beyer (D-8th), Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Sharon Bulova (D) and state Attorney General Mark Herring (D), as well as local and legislative elected officials from Fairfax and Prince William counties.

I think Gerald Connolly has done a good job representing the people who live in his district. He deserves to re re elected.

In Connolly's eyes, public service means servicing the public, to put it politely, with tax grabs and introduction of more illegal immigrants. He is the kind of government official who thinks that everyone works for the government and should cough it up. [sad]

I hope everyone knows that Mr. Connolly is for letting millions of ILLEGALS into our country, and raising our taxes to take care of them. He don't care how many jobs they take away fro American citizens. He don't care about the crimes they commit or how they are destroying our communities. I will do everything I can to see that he is NOT re-elected.

Good luck with that. LOL.

Again, if a alien is taking your job, you are low skilled and need to look in the mirror and ask why you cannot be successful in this environment. Why is a non english speaker who just got here able to take your job?

P23 just described about 90% of the black community. This is why Trump is going to be our next president. The black community (nationally) knows better then anyone else what a danger the Democrat's open border policy is to the United States and they won't be supporting HRC come November.

Plus, sadly there probably will be a horrific terrorist attack on the metro before the election and the black community uses public transportation more then any other group. That is just going to make them not want to vote for HRC even more.

Pleasantly23

Funny, I have taken the metro 2 times in the last year and both times I was surronded by white people....

LOL.... you bigots are a trip.

Funny (sad), anytime you tell P23 something were she has no response to she always ends up calling you a racial name. #typical

Pleasantly23

I called you a bigot because you are one. The comment you posted was stupid and sophomoric (like most of your post). unworthy of a response. I like all of my family and all of my friends are college graduates. So to say 90 percent of black people is anything is ignorant.

So what? No one care about your associates degree in food and beverage management that you got from Strayer University.

Anyway, 90% of the black community are blue collar workers and they are losing their jobs in droves to low paying immigrants (legal or illegal).

Any truthful comment that you have trouble coming to grips with is always bigoted or stupid. P23, you leave in a fantasy world and you don't even have a clue as what is going on in your own community.

"So what? No one care about your associates degree in food and beverage management that you got from Strayer University."

That is actually funny. Very witty. it is just to bad you are such a hypocritical racist. we both hate crime, are both college grads, both home owners but you have this deep need to want to bring race into everything and put african americans down.

get over it.
