HAMPTON — Three Hampton City Council incumbents will retain their seats for the next four years after solid performances in Tuesday’s council election.

Former Hampton Commonwealth’s Attorney Linda Curtis, former Hampton budget director Chris Snead and automotive manager Billy Hobbs all handily won reelection to the council on Tuesday.

Curtis won the most votes in the at-large contest, bringing in about 32 percent of the vote, according to unofficial totals from the Virginia State Board of Elections.

That earns the former prosecutor her first full term on the council. Curtis was appointed after a spot was left vacant when then-mayor Molly Ward took a White House appointment and won a special election for an abbreviated term in 2014.

Curtis did not return calls for comment Tuesday evening.

Hobbs and Snead each won a second four-year term. Snead came in second overall with about 25 percent. Hobbs garnered about 23 percent of the vote.

Snead said on Tuesday night that she’ll be more comfortable on council this time around.

“I think I will be a little more vocal and make sure that some of the things I want to accomplish get accomplished,” she said.

Hobbs said he was “tickled to death that the citizens liked me enough to reelect me” and that he’d continue to make business a priority.

“I’m just glad all the election stuff is over with because I want to get back to work moving the city forward,” Hobbs said.

Challenger Shree Green received about 12 percent of the vote across the city, not enough to upset any of the sitting council members.

Jim Nieder, who appeared on the ballot despite dropping out of the race last week, received just over 6 percent of the vote.

Results

Linda Curtis (I): 10,720 (31.97%)

Shree Green: 4,042 (12.05%)

Billy Hobbs (I): 7,727 (23.04%)

Jim Nieder: 2,069 (6.17%)

Chris Snead (I): 8,380 (24.99%)
