A Virginia state legislator was charged this week with repeatedly assaulting a boy and a woman, both of them relatives.
The boy sustained injuries consistent with “excessive physical discipline” earlier this month, and the woman was assaulted in December, police said. Police, who do not identify victims of alleged domestic violence, said the incidents took place in the family home.
Morris, who was released from Western Tidewater Regional Jail on Wednesday on $1,500 bond, did not respond to messages seeking comment.
Morris was arrested again on Thursday on new charges, stemming from additional incidents in 2016 involving the same boy and woman.
The new charges are: three felony counts of cruelty and injuries to children, three felony counts of child endangerment, three misdemeanor counts of domestic assault involving the boy, and two misdemeanor counts of domestic assault involving the woman.
Morris was again transported to jail, then released after posting $1,500 bond.
Morris is married with nine children, according to his online biography. A former Navy lawyer, he was deployed to Iraq for a time to prosecute suspected terrorists. He has been a member of the General Assembly since 2012, serving on the House’s courts and public safety committees. He is treasurer and finance director of a Hampton Roads volunteer group that represents abused and neglected children in court.
