Albo to lobby part-time

Veteran Virginia Del. Dave Albo, R-Springfield, is joining Williams Mullen to divide his time between lobbying and practicing criminal and traffic law.

Albo will join the government relations practice at Williams Mullen this fall, the law firm has announced. He will work as a lobbyist when the General Assembly is in session, from January to March. His lobbying work starts in 2019, he said. A Virginia law bars former legislators from lobbying the Assembly for one year after leaving office.

But Albo will continue to handle Fairfax County criminal defense work from April through December as a Williams Mullen lawyer, Albo said.

Albo, a 24-year veteran of the House of Delegates, announced last month that he would not seek reelection. He will step down as a delegate and join the law firm shortly thereafter, the firm said in a May 9 news release.

Albo has been practicing law for 29 years and is a former general district court prosecutor.

Since 1994, Albo has represented the 42nd House District, located in Fairfax County. He served as chair of the House’s Courts of Justice committee for the past 12 years and was a member of both the Joint Legislative Audit Review Commission and the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission.

The Albo & Oblon firm will continue under a new name next year, according to David Oblon, who is leaving this year to become a Fairfax County circuit judge. The firm will be led by managing partner Mike May and partner Erik Jurgensen.
