Summary

As Introduced. Carrying concealed handguns; retired law-enforcement officers.

Provides that a law-enforcement officer who is eligible for retirement with at least 20 years of service who transfers to a civilian position within his employing law-enforcement agency may carry a concealed handgun without a permit, provided that such person carries with him written proof of consultation with and favorable review of the need to carry a concealed handgun issued by the chief law-enforcement officer of the agency. Current law allows such law-enforcement officer to carry a concealed handgun without a permit only if he has resigned to accept a position covered by a retirement system authorized under Title 51.1 of the Code of Virginia.
