Cumulative data, calculated per 10,000 people of each race/ethnicity, rounded to the nearest whole number. Virginia population estimates from the 2019 American Community Survey conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Race/ethnicity definitions:

  • Asian: People who identify as "Asian" or "Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander" alone, and not Hispanic or Latino
  • Black: People who identify as "Black or African American" alone, and not Hispanic or Latino
  • Latino: People of any race who identify as "Hispanic or Latino"
  • Other: People who identify as "American Indian or Alaska Native" , "Other Race" alone, or identify with two or more race categories. Are not Hispanic or Latino
  • White: People who identify as "White" alone, and not Hispanic or Latino

Includes COVID-19 cases "confirmed" by testing, and "probable" cases diagnosed by symptoms with a known exposure to COVID-19. Hospitalization status at the time the case was investigated by VDH. Race and ethnicity are not available for many cases where laboratories did not receive that information for testing samples from health care providers.
