Richmond-based nonprofit is looking for a detail-oriented person to work as part of a nimble, creative team that provides the public with nonpartisan information about Virginia politics. The successful candidate will be one who can oversee and help develop programs that are at the core of the organization's mission.
The Director of Programs & Digital Outreach is a full-time salaried employee who reports to the Executive Director.
Among the programs the successful candidate will direct include a compilation of publicly available data about politics, the organization's social media presence, a daily compilation of relevant news stories, an annual fundraiser, and analyses of trends contained in the data collected.
We're looking for someone with 1-3 years of full-time experience in journalism, politics, public relations or a related field.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated interpersonal and analytical skills and also possess a combination of attention to details with the ability to see how the details fit a larger pattern.
We're looking for someone who is willing to adhere to the organization’s fiercely nonpartisan approach.
Responsibilities shall include but are not limited to:
Communication and Storytelling
- Develop social media strategy and be the organization’s social media voice.
- Look across data sets for trends and correlations.
- Take the creative lead on the development of data visualizations.
- Craft email alerts when new information is posted.
Data Acquisition
- Serve as primary contact with the State Board of Elections, Ethics Council and other agencies that provide data to VPAP.
- Develop and implement strategies to encourage candidates, lobbyists and others to e-file required disclosure.
Data Importation and Integrity
- Ensure that VaNews is comprehensive and adheres to content guidelines.
- Work as lead in a three-person team that integrates documents into the VPAP database.
- Help develop strategies that ensure data integrity.
- Help identify opportunities for efficiencies/automation of current processes.
Fundraising and Teamwork
- Serve as primary contact and support for VPAP Partners, a group of volunteers who help organize and raise money for annual luncheon.
- Ensure quality control of daily news clips which is compiled by a team of contractors.
- Provide guidance to college and summer interns.
