Statewide, there was a surge in absentee votes prior to the November 8 presidential election, leading some to predict a spike in voter turnout.
VPAP's latest data visualization examines the relationship between early voting and overall turnout (absentee and in-person voting) in last year's presidential election in Virginia. There was a small increase in statewide turnout, but the link between early voting and total turnout is not always clear when you look at individual cities and counties.
