15 New General Assembly Candidates
In the last month, 15 candidates have announced their intent to run for the State Senate or House of Delegates this year.

Amanda Pohl (D) is running for the seat now held by Sen. Amanda Chase (R-Midlothian). The 11th Senate District includes Colonial Heights and Amelia County and portions of Chesterfield County.
Ron Meyer (R) is running for an open seat now held by Sen. Dick Black (R-Ashburn). who is not seeking re-election. Three candidates are seeking the Democratic nomination. SD 13 includes portions of Loudoun and Prince William counties.
Nicole Merlene (D) is challenging Sen. Barbara Favola (D-Arlington) for the Democratic nomination. SD 31 includes portions of Arlington, Fairfax and Loudoun counties.
Dean Davison (Libertarian) is running for the seat now held by Del. Terry Austin (R-Buchanan). HD 19 includes portions of Botetourt, Buchanan and Alleghany counties and Covington City.
John Avoli (R) is running for the open seat now held by Del. Dickie Bell (R-Staunton), who is not seeking re-election. HD 20 includes portions of Augusta, Nelson and Highland counties and Staunton and Waynesboro cities.
Lauren Thompson (D) is the second candidate seeking the Democratic nomination in the district now represented by Del. Steve Landes (R-Weyers Cave). HD 25 includes portions of Augusta, Albemarle and Rockingham counties.
Larry Barnett (D) is running for the seat now held by Del. Roxann Robinson (R-Midlothian). HD 27 includes portions of Chesterfield County.
D.J. Jordan (R) is running for the seat now held by Del. Elizabeth Guzman (D-Woodbridge). HD 31 includes portions of Prince William and Fauquier counties.
J.D. Spain (D) is challenging Del. Alfonso Lopez (D-Arlington) for the Democratic nomination. HD 49 includes portions of Arlington and Fairfax counties.
Morgan Goodman (D) is running for the seat now held by Del. Buddy Fowler (R-Ashland). HD 55 includes portions of Hanover, Caroline and Spotsylvania counties.
Garrison Coward (R) is running for the seat held by Del. Dawn Adams (D-Richmond). HD 68 includes portions of Chesterfield and Henrico counties and Richmond City.
Mary Margaret Kastelberg (R) is running for the seat held by Del. Debra Rodman (D-Henrico). HD 73 includes portions of Henrico County.
Former Del. Rocky Holcomb (R) is seeking to re-gain the seat that he lost two years ago to Del. Cheryl Turpin (D-Virginia Beach). HD 85 includes portions of Virginia Beach City.
Chris Mayfield (D) is the third candidate seeking the Democratic nomination for the seat held by Del. Brenda Pogge (R-Norge). James Jobe (Libertarian) is also running. HD 96 includes portions of James City and York counties.

VPAP maintains an unofficial candidate list that includes those who have a) filed paperwork with the State Department of Elections declaring their intention to raise money or b) have announced publicly they are running for office. The State Department of Elections will release an official list of candidates who qualified for the November ballot at some point after the June 13 candidate deadline.
