Five New General Assembly Candidates

In the last 10 days, VPAP added five names to its unofficial list of 2019 General Assembly candidates.

This list is a work in progress. If you have any additions, deletions or corrections, please contact webmaster@vpap.org.

House District 4

Starla Kiser (D) is running for the open seat now held by Del. Todd Pillion (R-Abingdon) who is running in Senate District 40. Two candidates, David Eaton and Will Wampler, are seeking the GOP nomination. HD 4 includes all of Dickenson County and portions of Washington, Russell and Wise counties.

House District 23

David Zilles (D) is running for the open seat now held by Del. Scott Garrett (R-Lynchburg), who is retiring. Three candidates, Ronald Berman, Edgar Perrow Jr. and Wendell Walker are seeking the GOP nomination. HD 23 includes portions of Lynchburg, Bedford County and Amherst County.

House District 25

Janice Allen (I) is running for the open seat now held by Del. Steve Landes (R-Weyers Cave), who is leaving the House to run for Clerk of Augusta County Circuit Court. The Republican nominee is Chris Runion and the Democratic nominee is Jenni Kitchen. HD 25 includes portions of Augusta, Albemarle and Rockingham counties.

House District 80

Don Scott (D) is running for the open seat now held by Del. Matthew James (D-Portsmouth), who has resigned to take a job in the Northam administration. HD 80 includes portions of Portsmouth, Suffolk, Chesapeake and Norfolk.

House District 97

Kevin Washington (D) is running for the seat now held by Del. Chris Peace (R-Mechanicsville). Peace and Scott Wyatt are caught up in a contentious procedural battle over the method the GOP will use to select its nominee. Wyatt has claimed victory in a recent district convention, while Peace says the GOP nominee will be selected in a firehouse primary set for June 1. HD 97 includes New Kent County and portions of Hanover and King William counties.

VPAP maintains an unofficial candidate list that includes those who have a) filed paperwork with the State Department of Elections declaring their intention to raise money or b) have announced publicly they are running for office. The State Department of Elections will release an official list of candidates who qualified for the November ballot at some point after the June 11 candidate deadline.
