New Virginia Candidates
In the last week, VPAP has added 11 names to its unofficial lists of candidates running for U.S. Senate, State Senate and House of Delegates.

U.S. Senate
2024 U.S. Senate Election
Two weeks ago, Sen. Tim Kaine (D) announced that he would seek a third term in the U.S. Senate next year. So far, six Republicans have filed paperwork or indicated they are seeking the GOP nomination. They are Gary Barve, Jonathan Emord, Craig Ennis, Eddie Garcia, Kimberly Lowe, and Chuck Smith.
State Senate
Senate District 3
Jade Harris is the first Democrat to announce for this district, which extends from the Roanoke Valley north to Staunton. Del. Chris Head (R-Roanoke) is seeking the GOP nomination. SD 3 includes the counties of Alleghany, Botetourt, Craig, and Rockbridge, as well as the cities of Buena Vista, Covington, Lexington, Staunton, and Waynesboro. It also includes portions of Augusta and Roanoke counties. VPAP rates this a "strong Republican" district where Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin won an estimated 68.1% of the vote in November 2021.
Senate District 19
Myra Payne is the first Democrat to announce for this South Hampton Roads district. State Sen. John Cosgrove (R-Chesapeake) is also seeking re-election. The district includes portions of Chesapeake and Virginia Beach. VPAP rates this a "strong Republican" district where Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin won an estimated 61.5% of the vote in November 2021.
Senate District 31
Sen. Jill Vogel (R-Winchester) announced she would not seek a third term in the state Senate, leaving Juan Pablo Segura as the only candidate seeking the Republican nomination. Two Democrats previously announced they would seek the Democratic nomination. The district includes parts of Fauquier and Loudoun counties. VPAP rates this a "competitive" district where Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin won an estimated 50% of the vote in November 2021.
House of Delegates
House District 2
Kevin Saucedo-Broach joins Adele McClure in seeking the Democratic nomination for the district, which includes part of Arlington County. VPAP rates this a "strong Democratic" district where Democrat Terry McAuliffe won an estimated 76.1% of the vote in the November 2021 gubernatorial election.
House District 94
Mike Pudhorodsky joins Phil Hernandez in seeking the Democratic nomination in this Norfolk district. Three Republicans are vying for the GOP nomination. VPAP rates this a "competitive" district where Democrat Terry McAuliffe won an estimated 51.4% of the vote in November 2021.
