VERONA - Del. Steve Landes will make an announcement about the 2019 election Tuesday.

At 3:30 p.m., Landes will stand in the Augusta County Government Center meeting room to deliver the message, according to a press release from Landes.

The News Leader spoke to Landes by phone Monday and asked if he planned to run a reelection campaign for the 25th District seat. He said there would be an announcement Tuesday and the press release was received shortly after the phone call.

Landes was first election to the House of Delegates in 1996, according to ballotpedia. His seat represents parts of Albemarle, Augusta, and Rockingham Counties.

Two Democratic candidates announced their intent to run for the seat. They will compete for the Democratic nomination in the June primary.

Jennifer Kitchen, an Augusta County activist will run against Lauren Thompson, a navy veteran and Albermarle County resident.

The deadline to file for the Democratic party candidacy is March 21 and that party's primary will take place on June 11.

As of Monday, no one had announced their intent to run for the Republican nomination for the seat.

The 25th District Legislative District Republican Committee voted in February to hold a party canvass for its candidate. The deadline to file with the committee is March 6.
