Virginia State Police issued a media release Monday morning stating charges are pending against Strasburg Mayor Rich Orndorff as a result of an investigation they are conducting into a single-vehicle crash involving him Friday night.

Orndorff was flown to INOVA Fairfax Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries after he lost control of the John Deere Gator utility vehicle he was driving, according to the release. Orndorff crossed the center line while driving south on U.S. 11, veering off the road and hitting the Strasburg Community Library. Orndorff was the only person in the vehicle.

Sgt. Brent Coffey, public information officer for Virginia State Police, said in a phone call Monday that the damage to both the building and vehicle was minimal.

Coffey declined to comment on what caused Orndorff to lose control of the utility vehicle and whether anyone witnessed the accident, citing a pending investigation.

Charges against Orndorff are pending, according to the release, but Coffey declined to comment on what those charges are.

Wyatt Pearson, the town manager, said he has spoken with Orndorff since the accident but declined to comment on his condition, saying he didn’t feel comfortable talking with the mayor and his wife before disclosing any information.

According to a release the Strasburg Police Department sent out Monday afternoon, Virginia State Police are conducting the investigation at the request of the department in order to avoid any bias or conflicts of interest.

Driving a utility vehicle on Rt. 11? I'd say he had a few too many adult beverages! [ohmy]

If it was one of us this paper would have certainly revealed if we had been drinking or not. Why would he get any Preferential treatment?
