Voter registrars in Gloucester and Mathews have been working hard to to keep up with the demands of this year’s election cycle, from moving their offices to more accessible locations to handling the constant flow of voters who have been taking advantage of no-excuse early voting since it began on Sept. 18.

Gloucester Registrar Bobbi Morgan said that, as of Tuesday afternoon, 1,001 people had voted early in her new office on the first floor of County Office Building One, while 523 people had dropped off absentee ballots in the drop-off box. She had received an additional 331 absentee ballots in the mail as of Tuesday, she said, and 30 people had returned their absentee ballots in person to her office.

Of the 28,598 registered voters in Gloucester, a total of 4,121 people had either requested absentee ballots or voted in person during the 12 days since early voting began, she said.
