Starting Monday, the Virginia Beach Public Library will offer lobby and drive-up services only, according to a news release from the city.

Library spokeswoman Christine Brantley wrote in an email Wednesday that libraries are currently providing limited in-person services where customers can come into the branches, use computers and browse for books and other materials.

But next week, customers will have to pick up holds at most branches between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Monday to Thursday, and 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday, the release said.

The change is due to increasing COVID-19 transmission rates based on the latest numbers reported by the Virginia Department of Health for the Eastern Virginia region.

On Wednesday morning, the Virginia Department of Health reported 10,387 cases in Virginia Beach, up 108 from Tuesday. The department also reported 113 deaths, up one from Tuesday’s numbers.

Lobby and drive-up service will be available at the Oceanfront and Princess Anne area libraries, the release said.

Lobby service will be available at the Meyera E. Oberndorf Central, Great Neck Area, Kempsville Area, Windsor Woods Area and TCC and city joint-use libraries. The release also said the TCC/City Joint-Use Library will stay open for TCC students, staff and faculty only.

Lastly, the Bayside and special services library will offer drive-up service only.

The library spokeswoman also said the Pungo-Blackwater and Wahab Public Law libraries are closed.

“Wahab Public Law Library does not have space to provide lobby service, and Pungo-Blackwater is closed for renovation,” wrote Brantley.
