The Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority is moving its regional enforcement office to Newport News to allow more space for one of its Hampton retail stores.
The office in Hampton, at 4907 W. Mercury Blvd., shared space with a retail store, according to Dawn Eischen, a spokesperson for Virginia ABC. Moving to Newport News will give the store more space for products and for law enforcement officials to work.
The law enforcement office handles license applications and oversees alcohol laws and regulations for cities including Hampton, Newport News, Suffolk and Williamsburg.
The Hampton location will close at 5 p.m. Dec. 10, and the office will reopen in its Newport News space, 9317 Warwick Blvd., at 8:15 a.m. the following Monday.
ABC special agents and staff will still be able to assist customers via phone, according to a news release from the agency. Those with an existing license can reach out to their special agent directly by phone or email or call the regional office, which will still take calls during the transition at 757-825-7830.
Citizens looking for a one-day event license and businesses looking for a retail license can apply online at www.abc.virginia.gov.
