The caucus for Lynchburg Democrats to elect delegates for the presidential nomination contest set for Saturday is canceled.
The Lynchburg Democratic Committee received enough applications to fill delegations for both nominees Hillary Clinton and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, but not enough to require the caucus election, Chairwoman Katie Cyphert said.
Delegates are expected to attend the 6th Congressional District Convention on May 21 in Lexington and the state convention in Richmond on June 18.
“We are thrilled to have both existing committee members and new faces within our Lynchburg delegation, filling all delegate positions awarded to Lynchburg based upon the March 1 Presidential Primary. Democrats are excited and ready to get to work for November,” Cyphert said in a news release.
Local delegates will meet at 7 p.m. May 10 to decide whether to appoint alternates.
