Federal investigators have issued subpoenas seeking information from the office of Norfolk Treasurer Anthony Burfoot. According to a pair of federal subpoenas obtained by The Virginian-Pilot, the Justice Department continues to look into the city’s dealings with Tivest Development and Construction and the now-defunct company’s imprisoned president.

Buoyed by support from Mayor Paul Fraim and Sheriff Bob McCabe, Mamie Johnson narrowly won a six-way race to represent Ward 3 on the City Council Tuesday. Unofficial results showed her ahead of Rodney Jordan by 36 votes.

Lionell Spruill Jr. has announced plans to run for City Council in May, making him the third person to step forward as a candidate for the vacant Ward 3 seat. Spruill unsuccessfully challenged Del. Algie T. Howell Jr. in 2009 and backed out of a campaign for the open 89th House District seat in 2012. This time, he has his sights set on the City Council, and he has a powerful ally running his campaign: his father, Del. Lionell Spruill Sr.
