BILL ADVANCES TO HELP VA. BEACH RAISE FUNDS FOR ARENA

Legislation to assist Virginia Beach in financing a potential sports and entertainment arena is a step closer to becoming law now that the Virginia Senate has approved the measure. Del. A local lawmaker’s effort to get state aid in developing a sports and entertainment arena in Virginia Beach was endorsed by the House of Delegates today – but not before another local legislator tried to torpedo it. Del. Ron Villanueva's bill (HB2320) would allow the city to issue bonds to build an arena and to receive state income- and sales-tax revenue generated by the facility to repay the bonds.
