A large field of candidates is shaping up for May’s local election in Chesapeake, with incumbents facing challengers who include a farmer, a former fire chief and a “Mom for Mayor.” Tuesday night was the filing deadline, and 16 people have qualified to run for seven seats on the nine-member City Council, according to the voter registrar. That includes two special election races for mayor and one council seat.
