In a session dominated by debate over guns, Del. Nick Freitas, R-Culpeper, is again going to bat for home-schooled students.
For the second year in a row, the local delegate is chief patron of a measure that would allow children taught at home to participate in public school sports. Also known as the Tebow bill, House Bill 226 was referred Wednesday to a Virginia House of Delegates education subcommittee.
GOP congressional candidate Andrew Knaggs came to Culpeper with a message of determination.
“I can and I will defeat Abigail Spanberger,” Knaggs told about 30 people Saturday morning at the Culpeper County Republican Committee headquarters on Main Street. “All I need is for you to give me that chance.”
Guns are not allowed in churches during services, at least not now. But Republican Delegate John McGuire wants to change that. He has a bill that would overturn that prohibition.
“So I think that whether you’re a Democrat or a Republican, I think that it’s a bipartisan issue because we should be able to defend ourselves," McGuire says. "If you look at some strictest cities or towns with the strictest gun laws, they have the most gun deaths. And those victims have the right to defend themselves too.”
Del. John McGuire, R–Louisa, has introduced a resolution asking the Virginia Department of Health to study the algae blooms in Lake Anna.
He represents the 56th District, covering Louisa and parts of Goochland, Henrico and Spotsylvania counties.
McGuire said he decided to bring the matter to the General Assembly after hearing concerns from residents and Louisa’s Board of Supervisors.
U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, has endorsed Del. Nick Freitas, R-Culpeper, who is seeking the Republican nomination to run for Congress next year in the 7th District.
Freitas is one of seven Republicans seeking the chance to run against Rep. Abigail Spanberger, D-7th.
Republican Del. Nicholas J. Freitas (Culpeper) said Monday that he is running for Congress to unseat Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-Va.) and that he would try to protect the nation from what he called encroaching socialism.
A Republican state lawmaker from Goochland County announced Monday that he's running for the nomination to challenge U.S. Rep. Abigail Spanberger, D-7th.
Del. John McGuire, a former Navy SEAL, was elected to the legislature in 2017 and re-elected this month in a safe Republican seat.
Del. Nick Freitas, R-Culpeper, and Tina Ramirez, a candidate for the Republican nomination in Virginia’s 7th Congressional District, joined more than 50 people Friday for a pro-Trump protest and news conference outside the Glen Allen office of Rep. Abigail Spanberger, D-7th.
A former defense official in the Trump administration and first-generation American plans Tuesday to add his name to the list of Republicans seeking the nomination to challenge freshman House Democrat Abigail Spanberger in the Richmond suburbs.
Andrew F. Knaggs traveled the world for two years as the deputy assistant secretary of defense for special operations and combating terrorism and was deployed twice to Iraq as a Green Beret.
In a campaign swing through Culpeper, Tina Ramirez gave Republicans a taste of what’s to come as she aims to oust first-term Democrat Abigail Spanberger from her 7th District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
