FARINHOLT CONCEDES 94TH DISTRICT RACE TO YANCEY

As a recount looms in the Attorney General's race, another close race has been decided Wednesday morning. Rob Farinholt, the Democratic challenger in the 94th House District, has conceded to Del. David Yancey (R- Newport News) after the final vote tallies came in on Wednesday. On Tuesday night, Farinholt's campaign was holding out hope that uncounted absentee ballots would fall their way.

YANCEY RETAINS 94TH DISTRICT SEAT, BUT FARINHOLT MAY SEEK RECOUNT

Del. David Yancey, R-Newport News, was the apparent victor in a tight 94th House District race Tuesday, but Democratic challenger Rob Farinholt didn't appear ready to give up. According to complete, unofficial returns from the State Board of Elections, Yancey kept his seat by 523 votes, garnering a total of 10,659 votes. Farinholt, a first-time candidate who had some big-time backing, ended up with 10,136 votes.

FACTCHECK.ORG SAYS REPUBLICAN DELEGATES SHOULD STOP CITING THEIR REPORT

A group that monitors the accuracy of campaign advertising has said two Republican campaigns in Virginia's 93rd and 94th House Districts should stop citing a report from the group in attack ads targeting their Democratic opponents. In September, FactCheck.org issued a report that reviewed claims made in a commercial run by Democratic gubernatorial candidate Terry McAullife targeting his opponent, Republican Ken Cuccinelli.

VIRGINIA DEMOCRATS WANT TV STATIONS TO PULL YANCEY AD

The Democratic Party of Virginia sent cease and desist letters Thursday to three television stations in Hampton Roads seeking to halt the airing of an ad attacking Rob Farinholt, the Democratic challenger in the 94th House district. The letter says the advertisement from the campaign of Del. David Yancey, R- Newport News, states that "FactCheck.org says Farinholt's attacks go too far, and are beyond the facts."

Money is pouring into two Virginia rarities — the competitive House of Delegates districts anchored in Newport News — at an even faster pace than before, campaign finance reports show. The money flowing into the Peninsula campaign coffers, mostly from Democratic and Republican House leadership, is a sign both races remain wide open. That doesn't happen much anymore in a state where barely half of the 100 House of Delegates seats are contested by both major parties, and many of those usually return lopsided majorities for their incumbents.

The group, a progressive political action committee called Democracy for America, has endorsed Farinholt and contributed $2,000 to his campaign this summer.
