In the House of Delegates 44th District, the June 9 Democratic primary is essentially the general election, with no other candidate slated to be on this fall’s ballot at this time. Two Democrats are vying to replace Del. Scott Surovell (D), who is leaving his seat to run for state Senate.

Del. Scott A. Surovell plans to announce Sunday that he is running for the Virginia state Senate seat held by Sen. Linda T. “Toddy” Puller, a fellow Fairfax County Democrat who said Wednesday that she will retire this year after 23 years in public office. Surovell, a 43-year-old trial lawyer who lives in Mount Vernon with his wife and four children, was elected to the House in 2009. He serves as chairman of the House Democratic Caucus.
