Taylor: Crowdfunding for better roads

By SCOTT TAYLOR, published in Virginian-Pilot (Metered Paywall - 2 articles a month)

Imagine a third tunnel at the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel, built with private money from Virginians. The current tunnels remain free. The new tunnel is equipped with an E-ZPass reader and an algorithm that calculates fees to cross based on the amount of traffic. Investors see not only a return on their money, potentially growing tax-free through municipal bonds, but they have the opportunity to vote with their pocketbooks not to sit in traffic at the infamous bottleneck any longer.

Scott Taylor represents Virginia's 85th district in the House of Delegates.

Lawmakers support equity crowdfunding from Virginians to Virginia startups

By TARA BOZICK, Daily Press (Metered Paywall - 1 article a month)

A bill that's garnered bipartisan support from lawmakers seeks to open up an alternate source of funding for Virginia startups instead of waiting on federal rulings about crowdfunding. "I think there is no doubt that this vehicle will create a structure that absolutely will create jobs in our region," said Del. Scott Taylor (R-Virginia Beach), who introduced the bill in the House.
