Q: What is one issue that defines your call to serve, why does it matter, and how will you tackle it? A: I am running for reelection to continue providing effective representation for the people of the 33rd Senate district. Voters want us to maintain the high quality of life that attracted them to Loudoun and Fairfax. For most people, that means quality schools and manageable commutes, so we need to invest in education and transportation.

Members of Loudoun County’s General Assembly delegation are working on at least three bills about Dulles Greenway tolls this year, but a former lawmaker has another idea on how to combat toll increases: Virginia should just buy the road. As legislators from around the state were preparing to return to Richmond on Wednesday for their annual session, Del. David I. Ramadan (R-87), of South Riding, and state Sens. Jennifer T. Wexton (D-33) and Richard H. Black (R-13), both of Leesburg, were shepherding bills that would address what they see as the high cost of tolls.

Two more Republicans have formally announced plans to run for the 33rd District Senate seat, following the final vote tally in the attorney general’s race that Monday named Loudoun County Democratic state Sen. Mark R. Herring the victor. This morning, 24-year-old Herndon resident Ron Meyer announced his intent to run for the GOP nomination for the seat. His announcement comes shortly after John Whitbeck, Republican chairman of Virginia’s 10th Congressional District, made public his hopes to be the party’s nominee during Monday night’s Loudoun County Republican Committee meeting.
