Fending off her first challenger in 12 years, Del. Jeion Ward, D-Hampton, decisively won the Democratic party primary for the 92nd House District and is likely headed for another term in the General Assembly. Ward won 87.5 percent of votes cast and challenger Michael A. "Mic" Harris 12.5 percent

One of the more senior members of the House of Delegates is facing her first challenge in more than a decade, as Del. Jeion Ward, D-Hampton faces a primary opponent, Michael "Mic" Harris, on June 13. Ward, a middle school teacher turned teachers' union executive, succeeded another educator, Mary T. Christian, in the staunchly Democratic 92nd House of Delegates district in 2003. Harris is making his first run for elected office.

Del. Jeion Ward has picked up a primary challenger: Michael Harris, an ex-Navy man who works now at the Newport News shipyard. Harris, 33, said he doesn’t have a problem with Ward’s positions, but he wants to bring “a new perspective on things” to the House.
