Incumbents on both sides of the aisle cruise to victory in delegate contests

Incumbents of both parties in the House of Delegates won handily in primary challenges in the Richmond region. Del. Delores L. McQuinn, D-Richmond, and Del. Lashresce D. Aird, D-Petersburg, cruised to resounding victories in the 68th and 63rd House Districts, respectively, while Del. Robert D. Orrock, R-Caroline, won easily in the Republican primary in the 54th House District.

Petersburg Democratic primary candidates tout their experience at forum

With less than three weeks left before voters choose their party’s nominees for this year’s elections to state and local government offices, most of the candidates in Petersburg’s Democratic contests were on hand for a public forum Tuesday evening at Tabernacle Baptist Church. Three of the city’s constitutional officers’ seats are up for grabs this year: commonwealth’s attorney, commissioner of revenue and city treasurer. In addition, all of the seats in the House of Delegates will be on the ballot in November, and one candidate is challenging 63rd District incumbent Del. Lashrecse D. Aird.

Rawlinson challenges Aird in Democratic primary for Petersburg-area House seat

Gerry Rawlinson wants a rematch. The 57-year-old businesswoman and registered nurse came in third two years ago, the last time she challenged now-Del. Lashrecse Aird, D-Petersburg, in a Democratic primary for the 63rd District seat in the House of Delegates. Rawlinson is making her third run for elected office, and she says the third time's the charm.
