Midterm Elections Turnout

What percentage of Virginia's registered voters have participated in congressional midterm elections dating back 40 years? This year, there is no U.S. Senate race on the midterm ballot, something that happens once every six years.

Statewide turnout in midterm elections was highest before a "motor voter" law simplified voter registration, starting in 1996. The greater ease of registration drove up the total number of registered voters but didn't necessarily guarantee participation at the polls.
