VIDEO: How Representative are Va.'s Representatives?

Each year, the General Assembly gathers to represent residents of the Commonwealth. But just how closely do these 140 men and women match the profile of the state's 8 million citizens?

The nonpartisan Virginia Public Access Project shines light on this question in a new video, How Representative are Virginia's Representatives?

Based on data from the most recent U.S. Census, the VPAP staff has compared legislators to the state's overall population on characteristics such as education attainment, gender, military service, and ethnicity. The video seeks to increase public understanding of Virginia's part-time citizen legislature.
