VPAP staff learned today that the algorithm used to calculate legislators' party unity on floor votes was different than the one stated on its website.
When VPAP launched this feature two weeks ago, VPAP intended to consider only those non-unanimous floor votes where two-thirds of caucus members took the same position. The actual methodology in place is limited to floor votes where 83% of caucus members took the same position.
VPAP has changed its onsite documentation to reflect the actual methodology in place from the start. No lawmakers' scores have changed.
The same methodology applies to the regional delegation scores.
