Visualization: Freshmen Democrats Look to Rewrite Book on Fundraising
In their first six months in office, many of the 16 Democratic freshmen in the House of Delegates have gone their own way when it comes to political fundraising.
First, the freshman Democrats, on average, have raised considerably more money at the outset of their terms compared to their predecessors.
At the same time, freshmen Democrats have diversified their source of funds, relying far less upon corporate donors that traditionally have been a cornerstone of Generally Assembly fundraising.
Eight of the Democratic freshmen reported donations from Clean Virginia Fund, a new PAC set up to help underwrite candidates who refuse to accept campaign contributions from regulated monopolies such as Dominion Energy.
