The Census is conducted every 10 years and provides an official count of the population, which determines representation to Congress, the legislature, and other elected bodies, and collects essential data that lawmakers and others use to provide daily services, products and support for communities.
2016 – 2020 data from the American Community Survey. The American Community Survey samples selected households on an ongoing basis and asks questions about topics not on the Decennial Census, such as income, eduction, and employment. Survey results from a five-year period are used to get accurate estimates for areas with lower population, so single-year estimates are not used here.
Most recent population estimates from the Census Bureau's Population Estimates Program. The Population Estimates Program calculates the number of people living in states, counties, cities, and towns. These estimates are used in federal funding allocation and are produced every year for more current demographic comparisons than the Decennial Census.
