VPAP's analysis compares how the 2021 gubernatorial candidates did under the "old" district boundaries with how they would have fared if the "new" district boundaries had been in place last year.

Note: "Partisan Gap" is calculated using the following formula: Absolute value of (Percentage of votes received by Republican Glenn Youngkin MINUS Percentage of votes received by Democratic Terry McAuliffe). A positive number places a district to the right of 50 percent on the chart; a negative number places a district to the left of 50 percent.)

Source: Virginia Department of Elections compiled results of the 2021 gubernatorial election by the "old" congressional districts that were in place at the time of the election; VPAP analysis estimated the results of the 2021 gubernatorial election if the "new" districts had been in place at the time of the election.
