Primary Turnout Down Compared to 2017

Statewide turnout in yesterday's Democratic primary was 8.0 percent of registered voters, down from a record 9.9 percent four years ago. This visual looks at the number of voters who turned out in every locality compared to the Democratic primary in 2017.

Methodology: VPAP compared the number of ballots cast per locality in the June 2017 Democratic primary for Governor and the number of ballots cast in the June 2021 Democratic primary for Governor. The formula used to calculate 2021 votes per every 100 votes cast in 2017 is as follows: (Number of 2021 ballots divided by number of 2017 ballots) times 100.
