Ever-Shifting Flow of Virginia Legislative Fundraising
So far, Democrats have the upper hand this cycle in total money raised by Virginia General Assembly candidates. Analysis of fundraising totals at the same point in the last four cycles with 140 legislative seats up for grabs shows that Virginia has had a competitive two-party system.
Methodology: This visual looks at the four most recent election cycles with all 140 General Assembly seats on the ballot. The numbers shown above cover a 15-month period starting on January 1 of the year before the election through March 31 of the election year. The dollar amounts exclude transfers between committees controlled by the same candidate and money spent on special elections. Only includes contributions reported by candidate committees.
