RUST: THREE TRANSPORTATION ISSUES LAWMAKERS CAN’T AFFORD TO IGNORE

By THOMAS DAVIS RUST, Published in the Richmond Times-Dispatch (Metered Paywall - 5 articles a month)

Given the vital role transportation plays in maintaining the commonwealth’s economic competitiveness and quality of life, the General Assembly must deal with several pressing issues this session. A fatal flaw in the regional gasoline tax, absence of a dedicated source of funding for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority (WMATA) and an unraveling of the compromise on Interstate 66 inside the Beltway threaten to undo all the progress of recent years and make Virginia a far less attractive place to live or do business.

RUST: THE DAYS OF DISPARATE VOICES ARE OVER

By THOMAS DAVIS RUST, Published in the Washington Post (Metered Paywall - 3 articles a month)

As I step down next week, having completed 14 years of public service in Virginia’s House of Delegates , which followed nearly 20 years as the mayor of Herndon, I realize how fortunate I have been to have worked with thousands of committed Virginians intent on moving our region and the commonwealth forward. It is truly an honor to have had this privilege to collaborate with so many fine citizens.

Tom Rust, a Republican, represents part of Fairfax County in the House of Delegates and is chairman of the House Transportation Committee.

By LAURA VOZZELLA, Washington Post (Metered Paywall - 3 articles a month)

Two Northern Virginia Republicans running for the House of Delegates will launch a $336,000 TV ad campaign on Wednesday that links their Democratic rivals to Gov. Terry McAuliffe’s plan to turn Interstate 66 inside the Beltway into a toll road for some commuters. The network television ads — a rarity for House races in the expensive Northern Virginia TV market — are part of an unusually coordinated strategy by Republican House candidates in that traffic-choked region of the state.
