Outgoing Martinsville Mayor Kim Adkins believes she now can represent the city’s interests better as a state lawmaker rather than as a city official. Martinsville Mayor Kim Adkins doesn’t intend to run for a second term on the city’s council; instead, she is running for the 20th District state Senate seat in 2015 — the seat currently held by Bill Stanley, R-Glade Hill. “My term [on Martinsville City Council and as mayor] expires Dec. 31,” Adkins said. “I thought, ‘What’s next? Martinsville has done some pretty remarkable things … what can I do more?’”
