Va. legislature unanimous in effort to dilute alcohol control board politics

The Virginia General Assembly has sent a bill to Gov. Terry McAuliffe’s desk that supporters say would begin to remake the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board in an effort to offer better prices, selection and store choice. The Senate on Monday followed the House in unanimously passing identical bills, sponsored by Del. David B. Albo (R-Fairfax) and Sen. Ryan T. McDougle (R-Hanover), that would turn the ABC board into an authority.

Hanover legislators prepare for General Assembly session

When legislators return for a shorter General Assembly session next week, they will be faced with figuring out how to fill the gaps in the state’s 2016 budget shortfalls. Because of that, State Sen. Walter Stosch (R- 12th District) said he will “limit the bills” he’ll be filing this session budget. Stosch, who is on the finance committee, said one of his main priorities is passing a balanced budget for his constituents and the state. “[We plan] to try to do everything we can,” he said.
