Va. legislature unanimous in effort to dilute alcohol control board politics

The Virginia General Assembly has sent a bill to Gov. Terry McAuliffe’s desk that supporters say would begin to remake the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board in an effort to offer better prices, selection and store choice. The Senate on Monday followed the House in unanimously passing identical bills, sponsored by Del. David B. Albo (R-Fairfax) and Sen. Ryan T. McDougle (R-Hanover), that would turn the ABC board into an authority.

Legislators say 'nothing's changed' in campus sexual assault debate

State legislative leaders aren’t backing off plans to tackle reporting of sexual violence on university and college campuses, even though Rolling Stone magazine has cast doubt on its account of a fraternity gang rape at the University of Virginia. “Nothing’s changed,” said Senate Minority Leader Richard L. Saslaw, D-Fairfax, in response to an apology issued Friday by Rolling Stone magazine that questioned details in a Nov. 19 article about a horrific rape suffered two years ago by a U.Va. student named Jackie.
