Three seats in the House of Delegates are up for grabs on Tuesday in far Southwest Virginia. In the 1st District, incumbent Terry Kilgore, R-Gate City, faces Democrat Alicia Kallen of Pound. Both candidates have extensively toured Lee County, Norton, Scott County and Wise County and purchased advertising in recent weeks.

Kilgore challenged for the first time in decade

This fall, a Democrat will give veteran state Del. Terry Kilgore his first electoral challenge in a decade. In a press release Friday morning, Alicia Kallen, a Big Stone Gap native, announced that she will formally declare her candidacy Monday at 6 p.m. during a Democratic nomination event at Jonesville Middle School. Kilgore, a Gate City Republican, has served in the state House since 1994.
