26 percent of Genenral Assembly members are practicing lawyers

Twenty-three new members of the General Assembly joined the House and Senate on Jan. 8. Of these 23 members, five are practicing lawyers – and all of them are in the House. Still, only 36 of the 140 legislators are attorneys, with a few more holding law degrees, including newly elected Del. Nancy Guy, R-Virginia Beach.

Nancy Guy officially declared winner of 83rd House race

A three-judge panel on Wednesday officially declared Democrat Nancy Guy the winner of the 83rd House of Delegates race, with the final margin of victory standing at 40 votes over Republican incumbent Chris Stolle. On election night, the former Virginia Beach school board member led Stolle by just 27 votes.

Republican Del. Chris Stolle concedes to Democrat Nancy Guy after unofficial recount results

After a day and a half of recounting thousands of ballots cast in a Virginia Beach delegate race, the Democrat who originally declared victory seems to have picked up a few more votes. The new results won’t be certified by judges until Wednesday, but the Virginia Beach voter registrar said Democrat Nancy Guy unofficially gained 14 votes after recounting, apparently defeating incumbent Republican Chris Stolle by 41 votes.

Judge sets guidelines for 83rd District race recount

A one-time School Board member is now calling herself delegate-elect. Democrat Nancy Guy declared victory Friday night over her Republican incumbent opponent, Del. Chris Stolle, in the 83rd District. The victory announcement came after a “long and precise ballot counting process” that brought Guy’s edge over Stolle to 26 votes, up from 18, according to a news release from the House Democratic Caucus.

The Virginia House District 83 race between (D) Nancy Guy and (R) Rep. Chris Stolle has come down to 18 votes, with 100 percent of the vote in as of 11:05 p.m. on Tuesday. According to the Virginia Department of Elections, Guy leads the incumbent Stolle by the small margin with 49.95% of the votes - 10,958 to 10,940.

One delegate and one Senate race in Virginia Beach could be close enough to trigger recounts. Unofficial results from the Department of Elections show Democrat Nancy Guy beating the incumbent, Republican Del. Chris Stolle, by 18 votes in Virginia Beach’s 83rd House District. Reached by phone Wednesday, Stolle said he was certain he would win in a recount. ... On the Senate side, Democrat Cheryl Turpin is trailing Republican Jen Kiggans 50.36% to 49.49% — within the 1% margin that allows candidates to get a recount in Virginia.

Huge money pours into General Assembly races in Hampton Roads days before Election Day

With just days to go until Election Day, big money donors are flooding Hampton Roads candidates with cash. Just this week, the Beyond Carbon Action Fund donated nearly $350,000 to Democrat Nancy Guy, according to the non-partisan Virginia Public Access Project.
