Session:
2018 Regular Session

Summary

As Introduced. Indigent defendants; public defender office; appointment of counsel.

Provides that in localities having a public defender office, the public defender office or the Indigent Defense Commission must represent to the court that the public defender lacks an appropriate level of training and experience before a court can appoint another attorney to represent an indigent defendant. Under current law, the court can make such an appointment on the basis of its own finding that the appointment is necessary to attain the ends of justice. (Less)
