Northam’s Fundraising Decline

Gov. Ralph Northam's ability to raise funds for his political party collapsed at the start of the second year of his term, when the "blackface" scandal erupted. But the latest disclosures suggest that, by at least one measure, Northam hasn't completely lost his fundraising touch. The Democrat ranks second (behind Republican Jim Gilmore) in the smallest percentage falloff in fundraising between the third and fourth years in office.

Note: Annual amounts represent total contributions that each Governor raised through his primary leadership committee. The totals for the fourth year include activity through September 30. Fundraising totals for past Governors have been adjusted for inflation.
